India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Burma 1889-92 (2579 Pte. J. Hall. 1st. Bn. D.C.L. Infy.) good very fine £160-200

James Hall was born in Abbots Norton, Worcestershire, in 1866, and attested for the Duke of Cornwall’s Light infantry on 8 March 1888. He served with the 1st Battalion in India from 18 October 1889 until 31 March 1896, and in Burma as part of the Wuntho Field Force Expedition, February to May 1891, under the command of Brigadier General G. B. Wolseley. Discharged to the Reserve, he was recalled to the Colours on the outbreak of the Boer War, and served with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa from 5 November 1899 until 16 February 1901(entitled to a Queen’s South Africa Medal with clasps Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Driefontein, and Transvaal). He was finally discharged on 2 June 1901.
