Army of India 1799-1826, 1 clasp, Maheidpoor (J. Bourne, 22nd Lt. Dragns.) short hyphen reverse, officially impressed naming, hairline scratches from cleaning, light edge bruise, otherwise good very fine £1600-1800

John Bourne was born in the Parish of Powick, Worcestershire, and enlisted into the 22nd Light Dragoons at Worcester on 11 August 1812. He served in the Mahratta Campaign of 1816, 17, 18, & 19, was present in the affairs at Bejapoor, Sattara, Pinderpoor, Ashtee and Kurnool. He volunteered for the 13th Light Dragoons at Bangalore on 14 September 1819 and was later present with 2 squadrons of the 13th Light Dragoons in the Kurnool Campaign of 1839 and the affair at Zorapoor. When discharged on 29 February 1840, his conduct was described as that of a ‘Bad soldier in the Regiment’; he was ‘tried and imprisoned in July 1831, for making away with necessaries; tried and imprisoned in March 1833, for absence without leave and making away with clothing; tried and imprisoned in July 1837, for insubordination; tried and imprisoned in January 1840, for habitual drunkenness.’ Sold with copied discharge papers.
