Late 17th Century Officer’s Plug Bayonet and Scabbard, an exceptionally rare example, the 30.5 cm blade with single fuller and double edged (6 cm) spear point, the unmarked silver straight cross guard has helmet head finials on the shouldered quillons and both faces carry engraved designs, the burr walnut tapering hand grip with silver cap topped by a further helmet head finial, this again with an engraved design, the blade stamped on both sides with ‘Man In The Moon’ facing left, overall length 47.5 cms; the tooled leather covered wooden scabbard 23.5 cms with line decorated top and bottom chapes and elaborate cast silver coloured metal belt hook featuring a half helmeted head, the leather stamped with trefoil mark, the blade with some areas of slight pitted rust these neatly and sympathetically cleaned, the scabbard with a 3 cm split on the outer edge otherwise very good condition for a weapon of this age (2) £2000-3000
