Provenance: Spink, July 2005.

Albert Joseph Howes was commissioned Ensign, 50th Madras Native Infantry, in 1858. He served with the Regiment during the Indian Mutiny, as part of the Kurnool Moveable Column and Saugor Field Division. He was present at the storming of the fort of Ruteea, 13 November 1858. He advanced to Colonel in 1881, and was Lieutenant-General when he died in England, July 1914.
