M.I.D. London Gazette 11 January 1945:

‘In recognition of gallant and distinguished services in Italy.’

Walter John Kimber, an Electrical Engineer by trade, enlisted in the Royal Signals on 3 September 1939, and served with them during the Second World War. ‘He volunteered as a Parachutist in 1942 and saw action in Italy, France, and Greece. He has also served with his unit in Africa and Palestine.’ (the recipient’s Release Leave Certificate refers). He transferred from the 5th (Scottish) Battalion, Parachute Regiment, Army Air Corps, to the reserve on 21 June 1946. He subsequently married Miss Doris Mary Murrell.

Sold together with the recipient’s Mentioned in Despatches Certificate, this somewhat water damaged; Soldier’s Release Book; Certificate of Transfer to the Army Reserve; War Office enclosure for the M.I.D. emblem; letter of congratulations from Brigadier C. H. V. Pritchard on the occasion of his ‘Mention’, this torn and repaired; metal parachute ‘wings’; and a group photographic image showing the recipient.
