E. J. W Matthews was educated at Eton and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Grenadier Guards on 21 December 1917, subsequently serving during the Great War with the Guards Machine Gun Regiment.

Harold Hastings Walling was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, and served with the 1st/7th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers during the Great War. He died of wounds sustained at Passchendaele on 26 October 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

C. R. Turner served with the ‘Judean Battalion’, Royal Fusiliers, during the Great War.

Walter Forbes was born in Glasgow and served with the 10th/11th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry during the Great War. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 31 July 1917, on the first day of the Passchendaele Offensive, when the battalion was tasked with the attack on Beck House and Borry Farm. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
