Robert Farmer was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, and attested there for the King’s Royal Rifle Corps. He served with the 8th Battalion during the Great War, and was killed in action on the Western Front on 24 August 1917, during the Third Battle of Ypres, and is buried in Tyne Cot Cemetery, Belgium.
