Pair: Private J. Altham, Yorkshire Regiment, killed in action at the Battle of Arras, 11 April 1917

Joseph Altham was born at Haslingden, Lancashire, and attested for the Princess of Wales’s Own (Yorkshire) Regiment at Haslingden, having previously served in the Royal Field Artillery. He served during the Great War with the 10th Battalion, and was killed in action on the Western Front during the Battle of Arras on 11 April 1917. Initially reported buried east of Henin-sur-Cojeul, north of Bapaume, he is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.

Sold together with War Office and Imperial War Graves Commission letters regarding the recipient’s grave and memorial, and two postcard photographs of the recipient.
