British War and Victory Medals (F. D. C. Sumner.); Efficiency Medal, G.V.R., India (Tpr. F. D. C. Sumner. Cal. L.H. A.F.I.) officially re-impressed naming; Serbia, Kingdom, Cross of Charity, 1st Class in Gold, 1912 issue, bronze-gilt and enamel, light contact marks, good very fine (4) £80-120

Francis D. C. Sumner served as an Orderly with the Serbian Relief Fund during the Great War in Serbia from 7 February 1915 until 30 May 1915. He was subsequently commissioned into the Royal Garrison Artillery, and was promoted Lieutenant on 1 July 1917.

Note: Whilst the recipient’s Medal Index Card confirms the award of the British War and Victory Medals, it gives no indication that he was either entitled to, applied for, or received the 1914-15 Star.
