Archibald Richard Jordan was born in Bermondsey, London, on 7 March 1899, and was educated at Sir John Cass’ Foundation in the City of London. He served with the 9th Battalion (Queen Victoria’s Rifles), London Regiment during the Great War from 30 April 1917 until 22 September 1919, and was demobilised on 22 October of that year. He joined the City of London Police on 4 November 1920, and was posted to ‘B’ Division at Snow Hill. Promoted Sergeant on 25 November 1927, he transferred to ‘A’ Division, and received a further promotion to Sub-Inspector on 12 October 1933, returning to ‘B’ Division. Promoted Inspector on 30 December 1937, he was appointed to the Detective Department on 14 April 1938, and retired with the rank of Detective Inspector on 6 February 1947. He died in Lewisham, London, in 1952, aged 53.
