Three: Lieutenant W. I. Gosden, Wiltshire Regiment, later Indian Army

William Ivon Gosden was born in Midhurst, Sussex, on 12 March 1898 and was educated at Dorchester Grammar School, Dorset. He attested for the Dorset Yeomanry on 17 February 1915, and served with them for a year before transferring to the 3rd Battalion, Dorset Regiment, on 3 February 1916. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Wiltshire Regiment on 25 January 1917, and served with his new Regiment during the Great War on the Western Front from March 1917, before transferring to the Indian Army on 27 May 1918. Posted to the 102nd Grenadiers on 6 July of that year, he was promoted Lieutenant on 25 October 1918, and served on the North West Frontier of India during the Third Afghan War. He retired on 24 December 1919.
