Richard Harris attested for the 21st Lancers, 23 January 1883. He served with the Regiment as part of Major H. Finn’s ‘A’ Squadron at Omdurman, one of whose four Troops was commanded by Lieutenant Winston Churchill, 4th Hussars. The squadron suffered casualties of one man killed, and Lieutenant Brinton and 6 men wounded during the famous charge.
