M.C. London Gazette 7 November 1918:
‘For conspicuous gallantry and coolness in action. He led the company of which he was in command through a heavy enemy barrage and formed a defensive flank against enemy enfilade fire. He thus enabled his battalion to seize and hold an important ridge. He showed a very example to the men under his command.’


B.E.M. London Gazette 31 December 1960 Jacob Hannah Edgar, M.C., Foreman Enameller, Shanks & Company, Ltd., Barrhead, Renfrewshire.

Jacob Hannah Edgar initially served during the Great War in the ranks of the 8th Battalion, Gordon Highlanders. He was twice wounded in action, firstly in September 1915, and lastly when he received a gun shot wound to his left arm on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916. He was commissioned into the Liverpool Regiment, and was discharged with the rank of Captain.
