D.C.M. London Gazette 1 January 1919; citation 3 September 1919:

‘For conspicuous good service during the period Feb. to Sept., 1918, particularly during the operations N. of Scarpe in August when in command of a platoon. He invariably displayed great courage and skill in the handling of his men. The ability with which he manoeuvred his command enabled his men to perform the maximum of good work with the minimum of casualties.’

M.I.D. London Gazette 28 December 1918.

Robert Weddell was a pre-war regular Seaforth Highlander who was serving in India as a bandsman. He was wounded in France whilst serving with the 1/Seaforths in the Meerut Division. Later he was posted to the 5/Seaforths (T.F.), awarded the D.C.M. and mentioned in despatches. After the war he rejoined the 1/Seaforths and was promoted A/C.Q.M.S. He was posted to Depot Seaforth on 12 August 1922. Later he was appointed State Trumpeter for Scotland and as such accompanied the Senior Judge and also the Helards on ceremonial occasion.’ (Transcript of letter from Major Barker, Fort George, dated 27 February 1974, refers).
