Estimate: £2,000–£3,000

Early Anglo-Saxon Period, BRITISH COINS, Early Anglo-Saxon Period, Pale gold Thrymsa, c. 670-80, Primary series, ‘Oath-taking’ type, bust right with hand on cross, rev. lyre-shaped object, two small crosses above, all within traces of legend, 1.21g/9h (Metcalf p.47; N 17; S 766). Good fine or better but obverse slightly pitted, very rare £2,000-3,000

This coinage probably emanated from East Anglia. It has recently been suggested that the reverse design is a trophy of arms and armour derived from a 4th century Roman bronze
