Hammer Price:
£1,000

British Iron-Age, BRITISH COINS, British Iron-Age, Belgæ, Half-Unit, cruciform design of elongated crescents, trefoil of pellet-in-annulets in each angle, pellet in centre, rev. horse right with beaded mane, four-spoked wheel and two pellets-in-annulets above, pellet-in-annulet below, 0.55g (ABC –; BMC –; VA –; S –). Very fine, apparently unpublished and UNIQUE £1,200-1,500

Provenance: Found in Cambridgeshire.

Despite its eastern findspot, this coin has affinities with the coins of the Belgæ, particularly the Danebury Heart Leaf half-unit (ABC 962), although the four-spoked wheel motif is found on a half-unit of the Iceni (ABC 1627)
