Thomas Haddley served with the 42nd Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) in the Crimea, and was slightly wounded during the first attack on the Grand Redan, 18 June 1855. He transferred to the 93rd (Sutherland) Highlanders on 28 February 1857, and subsequently served with the Regiment in India during the Great Sepoy Mutiny.
