David Donald was born in the Parish of Barrony, Lanarkshire, and enlisted for the 1st Foot at Horsham on 27 August 1806, aged 20, a weaver by trade. He served in the East Indies from September 1807 to June 1829, and was discharged on 22 July 1829, being ‘worn out - has been cured of scurvy but his constitution is exhausted and he is not likely ever to prove effective.’ Sold with copied discharge papers.
