Army of India 1799-1826, 1 clasp, Kirkee and Poona (J. Whatmore, 65th Foot.) short hyphen reverse, officially impressed naming, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise nearly very fine £2400-3000

Provenance: Purchased Baldwin, March 1966.

Approximately 88 clasps awarded to European recipients, including 17 to the 65th Foot.

James Whatmore was born in the Parish of Staunton, Shropshire. He served in the 39th Foot for 5 years 182 days and in the 2/56th Foot from December 1812, before volunteering for the 65th Foot at Bombay on 4 November 1816. He was discharged on 1 February 1820, in consequence of repeated attacks of epilepsy. Sold with copied discharge papers.
