Henry Barrett was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, and attested for the 4th Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment at Bradford, in January 1883. He was discharged 9 January 1895. He re-enlisted with the 3rd Battalion, Yorkshire Regiment at Richmond, in August 1895. He was discharged 28 September 1901.
