Henry Oswald Gray was born in Tottenham, London, and attested there for the Royal Fusiliers. He served with the 11th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 26 July 1915, and was killed in action during the Battle of Arras on 3 May 1917, on which date 345 Officers and Men from the Regiment lost their lives, including Corporal George Jarrett, who was awarded a posthumous Victoria Cross for his gallantry that day. Gray is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
