Alexander Carroll was born in Middlesborough on 30 November 1879. He served as a Skipper in the Royal Naval Reserve from 20 January 1915 and was killed when H.M. Trawler Glenprosen was mined and sunk off Cross Sand Light Vessel on 3 November 1916. He is commemorated by name on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
