Russia, Medal of Zeal, Nicholas II, small, silver (Bdn. Wheelhouse.) engraved naming, on ‘St. Stanislas’ riband, with Royal Scots Greys cap badges, collar badges, marked silver and shoulder title, very fine (lot) £300-400

Wilfred Huthchinson Wheelhouse was born in Crossgates, Leeds, October 1889. He enlisted for the 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys), 10 April 1907, and served as a musician (in particular trombone and cello) in the Regimental Band for seven years. Including when the regimental band played for their Colonel-in-Chief, Czar Nicholas II, aboard the Royal Yacht at Leith, port of Edinburgh, August 1909. He transferred to the Army Reserve, 9 April 1914, and was discharged as a Sergeant from the 5th Reserve Cavalry Regiment, 21 May 1919.

From the Officers For Services Rendered’, with key; Certificate for use in Civil Employment, with three letters of testimony written by Officers of the Scots Greys; Certificate of Transfer to the Reserve; Buckingham Palace Permission to Wear Letter named to the recipient, for the Russian Medal for Zeal ‘For Orchestral Services’, dated August 1909.
