The group of four miniature dress medals attributed to Major-General M. White, 3rd King’s Own Light Dragoons

Army of India 1799-1826, 1 clasp, Bhurtpoor; Cabul 1842, the disc set into a separate mount, 1 clasp, Cabul; Sutlej 1845-46, the disc set into a separate mount, no battle in exergue, 3 clasps, Sobraon, Ferozeshah, Moodkee, mounted in this order; Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Chillianwalla, Goojerat, the medals all mounted individually showing their reverses from full sized ribands, with the gilded clasps the same width as the ribands, all with gilt straight bar suspension and top gilt riband bar, and gilt riband buckle, very fine and extremely unusual (4) £400-500

Michael White was commissioned Cornet in the 3rd King’s Own Light Dragoons on 15 August 1804, and was promoted Lieutenant on 14 May 1805. He served in the field in 1809, on the banks of the Sutlej, and was promoted Captain on 7 November 1815. He served at the capture of Hattrass in 1817, and during the Mahratta campaigns of 1817 and 1818, and also at the siege and capture of Bhurtpoor in 1825-26. Receiving the Brevet of Major on 10 January 1839, and promoted Lieutenant-Colonel on 13 December 1839, he commanded a Brigade throughout the campaign in Afghanistan in 1842, and was present at the forcing of the Khyber Pass, the storming of the heights at Jugdulluck, the action of Tezeen and Huft Kotal, and the occupation of Kabul, for which he was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath. He served throughout the First Sikh War, and commanded the whole of the Cavalry at the battle of Moodkee (charge wounded); a Brigade at the battle of Ferozeshuhur (wounded, and charger killed by a round shot), and the 3rd Light Dragoons at the Battle of Sobraon (charger wounded). Appointed an Aide-de-Camp to H.M. the Queen, he was promoted Colonel on 3 April 1846, and commanded the 1st Brigade of Cavalry throughout the Second Sikh War, where he was present at the affair of Ramnuggur, the action of Sadoolapore, and the battles of Chillianwalla and Goojerat. He was promoted Major-General on 20 June 1854
