Army Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R., 1st issue (38 C.S.Mjr. -A.S.Mjr. Instr:- J. E. McKett. A.G.St.) surname partially officially corrected, nearly extremely fine £80-120

Joseph Edward McKett was born in Glasgow in 1873 and attested for the Shropshire Light Infantry in London on 23 November 1892. promoted Corporal on 4 March 1896, and Sergeant on 25 August 1898, he transferred to the Army Gymnastic Staff on 3 February 1904, and was promoted Company Sergeant Major Instructor on 3 June 1909. Awarded his Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, with a Gratuity of £5, per Army Order 28 in 1911, he was discharged on 22 November 1913, after 21 years’ service, but re-enlisted the following September at Aldershot on the outbreak of the Great War, and served in his old unit at home for the duration of the War. He died on 4 January 1953.
