Leslie George Ball was born at Bromptow, South Australia. He joined the army in Adelaide as part of a special draft of reinforcements for signal service in Egypt on 24 January 1917. He embarked at Sydney in the S.S. Kyarra on 3 September 1917, and transferred to the 3rd Light Horse Regiment in February 1918. He was accidentally injured by a kick from a horse in November 1918 and, with a fractured tibia, embarked at Suez for Australia in January 1919. Sold with comprehensive record of service.
