Daniel Wilcox was born in Birmingham, Warwickshire, in 1880, and attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Buckingham on 13 February 1901. He served with the 38th (Buckinghamshire) Company, 10th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Boer War from 14 March until 23 November 1901, before being discharged medically unfit at Shorncliffe on 24 December 1901, after 315 days’ service.
