Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, South Africa 1901 (4131 Sgt. A. R. Meurant, Lanc. Fus.) unofficial rivets between State and date clasp, very fine £70-90

Arthur R. Meurant was born in 1873 in Dublin and attested for the Lancashire Fusiliers at Bury, Lancashire, on 7 July 1892, having previously served for 92 days in the South Lancashire Regiment. He transferred to the Army Reserve on 13 January 1899, having spent his entire career up until that point at home, before being recalled to the Colours on 9 August 1899 following the outbreak of the Boer War. Promoted Corporal on 13 December 1899, and Sergeant on 15 November 1900, he served with the regiment in South Africa from 14 February 1900 until 12 October 1901. He was discharged as medically unfit on 31 January 1905, after 12 years and 209 days’ service.
