Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg (3431 Pte. E. C. H. Heigham. E. Lanc: Regt.) minor edge bruise, good very fine £100-140

Ernest Clement Herbert Heigham was born in 1871 in Kentish Town, Middlesex, and attested for the East Lancashire Regiment at Manchester on 27 November 1891. He served with the 1st Battalion in India and Burma from 19 December 1893 until 17 December 1897, and took part in Relief of Chitral Expedition as part of Lieutenant-General Sir Robert Low’s Force, 7 March to 15 August 1895 (entitled to medal). Promoted Corporal on 24 February 1898, he transferred to the Army Reserve on 2 September 1899, but was recalled to the Colours for service in the Boer War, 18 December 1899, and served in South Africa from 13 January 1900 until his final discharge on 26 November 1903 (also entitled to a King’s South Africa Medal with two clasps), after 12 years’ service.
