Henry Fall was born in 1872 in Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, and attested for the North Staffordshire Regiment on 10 December 1890. After serving in South Africa, Malta, and Egypt, he transferred to the Army Reserve on 29 November 1897, but was recalled to the Colours on 16 December 1899 following the outbreak of the Boer War, and served in South Africa from 15 January 1900 until 24 August 1902 (also entitled to King’s South Africa Medal with two clasps), before being finally discharged on 9 December 1902, after 12 years’ service.

Fall’s service papers state: ‘Queen’s Medal with clasps Johannesburg, Cape Colony, and Orange Free State’, whereas the Medal roll gives the recipient’s entitlement as per the medal in this lot.
