Khedive’s Sudan 1896-1908, 2 clasps, The Atbara, Khartoum (3265 Pte. Collins 1 Cam. Ihghrs.) engraved naming, unofficial rivets between clasps and top retaining bar, edge bruise, very fine £100-140

John Collins was born in 1873 in St. Giles, London, and attested for the Cameron Highlanders at London on 19 April 1892. Posted to the 1st Battalion, he served in Egypt and the Sudan from 4 October 1897 until 2 March 1900, and was present at the Battles of The Atbara, 8 April 1898, and Omdurman, 2 September 1898, and in South Africa from 3 March 1900 until 9 August 1902 (entitled to Queen’s South Africa Medal with clasps, Cape Colony, Diamond Hill, and Wittebergen). Returning home, he transferred to the Army Reserve on 29 March 1903, and was discharged on 18 April 1908, after 16 years’ service.
