Thomas Dunn was born in 1862 at Clapham, Surrey, and attested for the East Surrey Regiment at Kingston-on-Thames on 28 October 1881. He served with the 2nd Battalion in Egypt from 26 September 1884 until 6 September 1885, and was present during the operations at Suakin, 1 March to 14 May 1885. Promoted Corporal on 5 October 1886, and Sergeant on 5 August 1888, he transferred to the Army Reserve on 27 October 1888, and was discharged on 27 October 1893, after 12 years’ service.
