Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Delhi, Relief of Lucknow (Colr. Serjt. Wm. Kennedy, 75th. Regt.) traces of lacquer, good very fine £550-650

William Kennedy enlisted with the 75th (Stirlingshire) Regiment of Foot) on 26 November 1849, and sailed for India with a draft from the Depot on 15 July 1850, arriving with his Regiment at Umballa on 8 March 1851. Promoted to Corporal in 1853, and then to Sergeant on 26 September 1855, he served with the Regiment throughout the Great Sepoy Mutiny at Delhi, June to September 1857, where he was promoted Colour Sergeant on 24 June 1857, and at the Relief of Lucknow, November 1857. Garrisoned in the Alumbagh until early February 1858, the 75th subsequently served at Cawnpore, and then in March 1858 returned to Meerut. Reduced to Private by Regimental Court Martial, 10 May 1859, Kennedy embarked for the United Kingdom on 19 April 1860, and was discharged on 26 September 1860. He subsequently emigrated to Canada.
