Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Central India (Lieut. C. E. Stack 1st. Bombay Lancers.) re-engraved naming, good very fine £80-120

Charles Edward Stack was born in Poona, India, on 2 April 1836, the son of General Sir Maurice Stack, K.C.B., 3rd Bombay Light Cavalry, and was commissioned Cornet and Ensign, 1st Bombay Cavalry (Lancers) on 20 December 1853. Promoted Lieutenant, 17 June 1855, he served with the Kotah contingent against the Mutineers in the Agra and Muttra districts in May and June 1857, was present as Aide-de-Camp to Major-General Polwhele at the first Battle of Agra, 5 July 1857, and served as Assistant Field Engineer in the Agra and Muttra Force until 25 August 1857, when he rejoined his Regiment in Rajpootana. He subsequently took part in the siege and capture of Awah, and the campaign in Rajputarci, including the pursuit of Tantia Topee, the battle of Bunnass, and other minor affairs. Promoted Captain on attachment to the 3rd Bombay Cavalry, 30 July 1862, he was appointed Second in Command of the 3rd Light Cavalry, with the rank of Major, on 20 February 1873. Advanced Lieutenant-Colonel, 31 October 1878, and Colonel four years later, he was appointed Colonel Commandant of the 3rd Light Cavalry in 1885. Returning to the U.K., he transferred to the Unemployed Supernumerary List in 1893, and died at Richmond, Yorkshire, on 2 June 1924.
