India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, Hazara 1888 (609 Pte. J. Gammon 1st. Bn. Suff. R.) edge bruise, good very fine £120-150

James Gammon was born in 1864 and attested for the Suffolk Regiment at Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, on 12 June 1883. He served with the 1st Battalion in India from September 1884, and took part in the Black Mountain expedition as part of the Hazara Field Force under Major-General J. W. McQueen, 3 October to 9 November 1888. Returning home on 11 February 1891 he transferred to the Army Reserve three days later, and was discharged on 11 June 1895, after 12 years’ service.
