John Dillon was born at Ashton, Lancashire, in 1859 and attested for general service at Warrington on 28 July 1880. Posted to 13th Brigade, he sailed for India in December 1882, and served with the 2nd Battalion, King’s Liverpool Regiment in Upper Burma between November 1885 and January 1887. Returning home in June 1887, he immediately transferred to the Army Reserve, and was finally discharged on 27 July 1892, after 12 years’ service.
