India General Service 1854-95 (2), 1 clasp, Northwest Frontier (304 Corpl. J. Dillon. 7th. Hussars.) re-impressed in irregular sans-serif capitals with several letters double-struck; another, 1 clasp, Looshai (1035 Pte. O. Campbell 1st. Bn. K.O. Sco. Bord), clasp re-affixed on latter, very fine and better (2) £160-200

John Dillon was born in Cork, Ireland, in 1833 and attested for the 7th Hussars in February 1858. Promoted Corporal in August 1861, he served with the Regiment as part of Colonel A. F. Macdonnell’s expedition against Sultan Muhammed Khan on the Northwest Frontier of India, 5 December 1863 until 2 January 1864. Promoted Sergeant in September of that year, he held the appointment of Troop Sergeant Major between October 1870 and December 1874, and was awarded a Long Service and Good Conduct Medal shortly before his discharge in January 1880, after 21 years and 339 days’ service.

Owen Campbell served with the 1st Battalion King’s Own Scottish Borderers as part of the Burm Column under Brigadier-General W. P. Symons in the operations against the Chin Tribe, 15 November 1889 until 30 April 1890, and is entitled to the clasp ‘Chin-Lushai 1889-90’, not ‘Looshai’
