South Africa 1834-53 (Jas. Giffard. 43rd. Regt.) edge bruising, nearly very fine £260-300

James Giffard (‘Gifford’ on the latest publish transcript of the medal roll) was born in Bassingbourne, Cambridgeshire, in 1824 and attested for the 43rd (Monmouthshire Light Infantry) Regiment of Foot at Cambridge on 6 January 1846. He served with the Regiment in South Africa during the Third Kaffir War, 1850-53, and in India during the Great Sepoy Mutiny (entitled to a no clasp medal), before being discharged on 12 December 1859, after 13 years and 338 days’ service.
