Richard Young was born at Preston-on-Stour, near Stratford-upon-Avon, Gloucestershire, and enlisted into the 39th Foot on 26 September 1803, and served with that regiment until 24 March 1806. He volunteered to the 95th Foot on 27 August 1806, and served with the regiment until his discharge on 28 October 1814. He enlisted for a third time, into the Grenadier Guards, at Stroud on 3 May 1815, and was finally discharged in consequence of rheumatism on 1 March 1823. He was granted an Out-Pension of 7 pence per diem on 5 March 1823, and, when examined by the Board as a candidate for the In-Pension on 25 June 1842, it is noted under ‘Remarks’, ‘States he was at Barossa, Rodrigo, Badajos, Salamanca, Vittoria, St Sebastian and Toulouse.’ He was granted an In-Pension on 1 July 1842, and died on 14 February 1852. Sold with copied discharge papers, full muster details and other research.
