Alfred Frederick Victor Dyer was born in Alverstoke, Hampshire in December 1910 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in June 1926. He was awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in October 1943, whilst serving in H.M.S. Bulldog, which ship had famously captured a complete Enigma machine and codebooks from the U-110 in 1941.
