Frank Humphrey was born in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, and enlisted in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry at High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. He served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion, and was killed in action on the Western Front on 21 October 1914, on which date the Battalion was in action in the First Battle of Ypres, and suffered 9 officers and 143 other ranks killed or wounded, and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
