Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Orange Free State, Transvaal (4723 Boy V. Vernon. 2nd Dragoons); British War Medal 1914-20 (Ch.16970 Mus. V. Vernon R.M.); Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 1st issue (Ch.16970. Vincent Vernon. Musician R.M.L.I.) with official corrections; Russia, Medal of Zeal, Nicholas II, small, silver (Bdn. Vernon) engraved naming, on ‘St. Stanislas’ riband, with two cap badges, contact marks overall, nearly very fine (lot) £500-600

Vincent Vernon was born in Birmingham, September 1882. He served 10 years and 25 days as a musician with the 2nd Dragoons, including when the regimental band played for their Colonel-in-Chief, Czar Nicholas II, aboard the Royal Yacht at Leith, port of Edinburgh, August 1909. He enlisted as a Bugler in the Royal Marines, Chatham Division, 4 December 1911, and was discharged to Pension, 8 November 1922.

He was later imprisoned in H.M. Prison Brixton, and died in July 1959.
