London Gazette 2 April 1919.

‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on November 3rd, 1918, near Catillon. His battalion had to come into action in a very exposed position, and was subjected to heavy fire for 8 hours, prior to the attack at dawn. In spite of this he carried through all his arrangements successfully, and the effective part played by his battalion was mainly due to his personal courage and coolness in moving about amongst his men, and inspiring them by his splendid example.’
