19th (St. Pancras) Battalion, the London Regiment, Captain E.E. Hanewinkel Cased Presentation Hanoverian Pattern Dessert Spoon, the spoon 16.5 cms long by Elkington & Co., Birmingham is hall marked 1903, the bowl with engraved memorial inscription ’Capt.E.E.Hanewinkel killed in France 31st August, 1915’, in its original Elkington green velvet lined simulated leather case, sold together with considerable paperwork research, very good condition £60-100

Note: Ernest Eberhard Hanewinkel (1882-1915) was born in Liverpool. He later studied at Liverpool College and Trinity College Dublin. He graduated B.A. in 1908. He was a pre-War Territorial being Commissioned 2nd Lieut. 19th Londons 2/4/1913, promoted Lieutenant 26/8/1914, going to France with his Battalion in March 1915, promoted Captain 31/5/1915 and was killed in action on either the 30th or 31st August 1915. He is buried in Bethune Town Cemetery.
