23rd Royal Welch Fusiliers, Captain Charles Edward Hopton, a hand painted Daguerre photograph c. 1854, a very fine quality 1/6th size oval portrait contained in an oval gilt locket with pin back, Hopton is shown in his Full Dress coatee his shoulder belt with plate and ornate wing epaulettes. Hopton was wounded at the Battle of the Alma 20th September 1854, sold together with various photocopied extracts from the Army List and the Casualty Roll for the Crimea. He later formed and commanded the 4th Herefordshire Rifle Volunteers, very good condition £200-300
This lot was sold as part of a special collection, The Collection of Militaria to Welsh Regiments formed by the Late Llewellyn Lord.
