Pair: Bugler A. Chalmers, Royal Highlanders (Black Watch), later Middlesex Regiment

Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Wittebergen, South Africa 1901 (7559 Bugr. A. Chalmers, Vol: Coy. Rl. Highldrs:) last clasp unofficially affixed as issued; British War Medal 1914-20 (G-57019 Pte. A. Chalmers. Midd’x) together with a City of Dundee Tribute Medal, silver (Hallmarks for Birmingham 1899), the reverse engraved ‘Dundee Volunteers Service in South Africa with Freedom of City 1900’, good very fine (3) £120-160

Andrew Chalmers was born in Dundee in 1878 and attested for the Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) at Dundee on 8 January 1900, having previously served in the 3rd Volunteer Battalion of the same Regiment. Promoted Bugler on the same day, he was posted to the 2nd Battalion, and served in South Africa from 16 February 1900 until 16 May 1901. He was discharged on 24 May 1901, after 1 year and 137 days’ service.

Sold together with the recipient’s Certificate for the Freedom of the City of Dundee, dated 18 January 1900; and a group photographic image of the recipient.
