Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 2 clasps, Defence of Lucknow, Lucknow (P. Shaxton, 90th. Lt. Infy.), unofficial rivets between clasps; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (3586. Bugler P. Shaxton, 90th. Foot) traces of brooch mounting to reverse of latter with suspension reaffixed, edge bruising and heavy contact marks, therefore fine, the obverse of the LS&GC better (2) £500-700

Philip Shaxton was born in Littleham, Bideford, Devon, on 13 April 1837, and attested for the 90th (Perthshire Volunteers) Light Infantry on 15 October 1854. He served with the Regiment in both the Crimea (entitled to a Crimean War Medal with clasp for Sebastopol and Turkish Crimean Medal), and in India, where he was present at both the defence and capture of Lucknow, and was wounded in the arm at the Residency. Appointed a Bugler on 1 February 1860, he was awarded his Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in April 1875, and was discharged on 13 April 1875, after 21 years and 1 day’s service.
