Sutlej 1845-46, for Moodkee 1845, 1 clasp, Sobraon (Joseph Cockens 31st. Regt.) traces of lacquer and pin mounting marks to edge, heavy contact marks, nearly very fine £280-320

Joseph Cockins was born in Cawnpore, India, and attested for the 31st (Huntingdonshire) Regiment of Foot on 6 July 1836. Appointed a Drummer on 13 June 1838, he served with the Regiment in the First Sikh War, and was wounded at the Battle of Moodkee, 18 December 1845. He was finally discharged on 23 February 1847, after 6 years and 286 days’ service.

Note: Cockins is not recorded as having served at the Battle of Sobraon, and his name dies not appear on the latest published transcript of the medal roll for this action.
