Guy Heron Maxwell-Heron was born in June 1871, the son of John Heron Maxwell-Heron of Heron and Kiroughtree, D.L. and J.P., and onetime M.P. for Kirkcudbright. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, South Wales Borderers in May 1891, young Guy was was advanced to Lieutenant in April 1893 and to Captain in December 1896. He subsequently saw action in South Africa, where he served in the operations in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and the Transvaal in the period March 1900 to May 1902 (Queen’s Medal & 3 clasps; King’s Medal & 2 clasps), and won a brace of “mentions” (London Gazettes 10 September 1901 and 29 July 1902, refer).

Advanced to Major on the Special Reserve in July 1913, Maxwell-Heron served on the Home Establishment for the duration of the Great War, onetime commanding the 3rd Battalion and gaining advancement to Lieutenant-Colonel in June 1917. He resigned his commission in December 1919 and died at Cirencester in January 1944; sold with copied research.

Basil Charles Montagu Maxwell-Heron was born in June 1878, the younger son of John Heron Maxwell-Heron of Heron and Kiroughtree, D.L. and J.P., and onetime M.P. for Kirkcudbright. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th (Militia) Battalion, Scottish Rifles in February 1900, young Basil was embarked for South Africa, and served as Acting Garrison Transport Officer at Boshof; he was present in the operations in Cape Colony and Orange Free State in the period November 1900 to May 1901 (Queen’s Medal & 2 clasps).

Having resigned his commission in June 1904, Maxwell-Heron was appointed a Lieutenant in the 8th (Service) Battalion, York & Lancaster Regiment in October 1914. He was subsequently appointed an Assistant Military Landing Officer, H.Q. for Embarkation Duties, but died in London on 22 September 1916; sold with copied research and copied portrait photograph.
