Army Long Service & Good Conduct, E.VII.R. (562 Serjt. Maj. C. W. Axon, Rl. Welsh Fus.), note surname spelling, good very fine £60-80

Charles William Axson was born in Limerick and enlisted in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in July 1883, aged 20 years. He subsequently served the Colours for 30 years but saw no active service. He was however accidentally shot in the foot while serving during the occupation of Crete 1897-98. Awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal in May 1906, he was discharged as a Sergeant-Major from the 3rd Battalion in July 1913. He subsequently re-enlisted in the Leinster Regiment at Cork in May 1915 and served as a Sergeant-Major and clerk on the Home Establishment until being demobilised in August 1919; sold with copied research.
